Why Holding Others and Ourselves Accountable Matters

Mindset, Business Growth, Practice Growth

Everyone thrives!

Let’s start by describing ACCOUNTABILITY.

Being responsible.  A person owning their actions, decisions, and the consequences.

Ultimately, someone does what they say they’ll do and if they don’t, they’re open to being challenged, supported, and redirected.

Sometimes we just need someone to hold us to our commitments and tasks.

This should not be looked at as a failure.

Accountability actually works two fold; as we are helped to get our stuff completed, we in essence help those doing the helping do the same.

Accountability can be perceived as a punishment or even being judged.

It is NOT about punishment, it’s about growth, trust, and integrity.

It demands honesty, being able to call someone out, if you will, but with kindness and respect.

Whether in your business and/or as a coaching student you may NEED to have someone hold you accountable.

None of us are perfect, some are better at completing their tasks with more tenacity than others, but a great majority of us NEED to be held accountable on following through to getting our things done. PERIOD.

Whether in the workplace, at home, or among friends, holding someone accountable means caring enough to ensure they follow through on their commitments, actions and behaviors.

Whether we like it or not, we feel better, more satisfied and have a sense of accomplishment.

We have less guilt because we followed through.  We feel a sense of success.

This can be the difference between someone continuing or giving up on their dream of being their own boss.

The implications of someone holding your feet to the fire can be life altering.

Take the time to acknowledge your “small wins” even if they required some help to achieve them, remember YOU still did the hard work!

So with accountability being explained, you ask “why does it matter?”

BECAUSE, when we hold others responsible for what they said they were going to do, it helps the community in which you live and work be a much stronger place.

Accountability breeds trust, stronger relationships, helps people reflect and improve, and fosters a sense of responsibility and pride in one’s actions.  Who wouldn’t want that running through their home and business!
