Don't be afraid to ask!

This year's calendar has come down to the last few little squares.

Ahead on the 2026 calendar are 365 blank slates eagerly awaiting us to show action on each one.

How exciting!!

It can also feel very daunting; particularly for a new entrepreneur.

We often go into a new year with BIG aspirations for success.

Yet, the end of a year always seems to bring a sense of wanting to hit "pause" and step away for a moment.

We are already seeing new practice owners who are starting to scramble in a bit of a panic.

Meanwhile, more seasoned business owners are trying to whiteboard what the next 12 months may bring.

Such a large blank canvas can be a phenomenal motivator, offering excitement and plenty of room for creativity.

It can also cause “Blank Slate Syndrome” in which one becomes paralyzed with fear and anxiety.

It is easy to feel your sails go slack.

In both instances, one way to KNOW you will succeed is to set up a Success Council.

In other words, don’t be afraid to ASK FOR HELP.

This is surprisingly challenging for many people, if not something that they resist altogether.

Maybe this is what the Internet has created.

So many have grown up in a world where if information on how to do something is needed, Youtube has a video to show how to “DIY” it.

Doing it yourself gives one a sense of accomplishment and pride.

It allows us to say: “I did it myself.” “I saved money.” “I can thrive on my own.”

It’s a badge of honor.

And this is a great thing.

But what happens when the “Do A,B, and C” advice doesn’t work - primarily because there are infinite human elements involved?

As clinicians, we dive into continuing education classes when we want to advance our skills.

When we become stumped with a patient, we turn to our colleagues for suggestions.

It’s fascinating that when one’s livelihood and providing for their family is on the line - because the business is on THEIR shoulders - people have a tendency to go about it with a “DIY” mentality.

The suggestions of others who have never even attempted what they are doing influences their decisions.

This may even result in dreams being doused.

Or just more roadblocks and frustrations along the way.

Do yourself a favor and ask for help.

Build a success council around you.

Seek out those who have done, or are doing exactly what you are wanting to do - and have achieved success doing it.

Learn from them so that you can streamline your own path to success.

You will end up saving time, money, and experience a lot less anxiety and frustrations.

The right success council for you will hold you accountable. It will challenge you to grow. It will also point out your blind spots.

Perhaps most importantly, the right Council will do more than simply tell you to “Do A, B, and C”.

It will help you to solve problems and navigate hiccups.

This goes beyond marketing and lead generation.

Frequently, even those with success councils have a tendency to isolate themselves when “life situations” arise, whether it be personal or business related.

These are times when your council can offer the most support and be your rock.

Ask for help.

If we may, even Proverbs 11:14 says: “Where there is no guidance, a people fall; but in the abundance of counselors, there is safety.”

If you have been resistant towards asking for help, why?

Be honest with yourself.

Ask yourself: “If I sought help, how much simpler could this be?” “How much less stress might I have?” “How far could I really go?” “How much time and money might I actually save?”
